Zinnias from seed to bloom - and all our other beautiful flowers!

Zinnias are a fantastic flower and made more interesting if you take note of their development from seed to bloom.

You may recall early this spring that Marv was in the greenhouse beginning the seedlings...

And then planting them in the ground.

Once in bloom it makes for a very beautiful site!

When the bud first begins to form it has its own dainty appearance..

As the bloom opens up it's makes these really interesting tunnels...

And then, of course, it's just lovely and dainty when fully opened.

Enjoy these beautiful flowers while they last.  They can be picked-up in bouquets at the stand.

And enjoy some of our Gerber Daisies, hanging baskets, Hibiscus and many other beautiful flowers. Simple ways to decorate your home or just a small gift for someone special!

Let's Talk Machinery

If you are a gardener, and you've been told that it's good to cover your garden with something to keep the weeds out like H.G. said last week - it's true!  BUT, wouldn't it be nice to have one of these machines to help you out!  Take a look at this biodegradeable plastic layer...

This is how it works...HG hops on this crazy beast and Marv follows behind to make sure everything is working as it should...

Marv pulls out the plastic and lays it on the ground and stands on it....

Then he takes a shovel and dumps dirt to hold down the plastic....

H.G. takes off and these strong blades fold in the dirt in order to hold the plastic down; so, on another day they can run along top of it and plant tomatoes!

And off they go, row, after row in order to bring you the most delicious tomatoes (and much, much more) in town!

So, if you happen to have a young child who likes to stand in your front yard watching the dumb trunk come by, pull him aside and impress him with this BIG TRUCK! Or, if you want one of these machines yourself post below :)

Do we use our seeds from last year's plants?

Each year seeds from last years plants are given a germination test to see if they are good for this year.  In the case of the lettuce pictured to the left, the seeds are planted and if 40% of the seeds sprout then those seeds are used for planting.  Interestingly, in the case of corn, H.G. will not use the seeds unless 90% of them sprout!
Mmmmmm, can't you just taste that sweet delicious corn?

Here is this week's growth for our tomatoes...Growing up beautifully!
