Letter from The Farmer

2018 was a year to remember and a year to forget. In any case, 2019 brings with it exciting and mysterious possibilities.
Though we saw the worst farming season in my 33 years of growing fruit and vegetables, there were important milestones to highlight.
We had record rainfall amounts (double normal averages) and a record number of Field to Fork dinners (15 with 4 of those chefs coming from Philly).
I fixed the solar charging system on my crystal ball (mysterious) and it has shown me a little of what 2019 will bring to SIW. Our F2F dinner schedule should be live by mid April with new and old faces in the cook tent. Wilmington, Philadelphia, Ohio, and Hawaii may be represented if all goes right (exciting!).
In the fields, normal sunshine, rainfall and temperature should bring bountiful harvests of your favorite fruits and veggies (50% certainty according to the crystal ball).
Here's to 2019!
HG

SIW Awarded Annual Dining Award for Best Farm Dinners!!

We are very humbled and excited to share that we were awarded the Annual Dining Award for Best Farm Dinners by Best of the Best County Lines 2019! Here are the kind words they had to say about us. We have all of you who have attended our dinners and continue to support our farm to thank for this award. We could not do it without your support!

A farm stand, CSA and wholesaler of old-fashioned and newfangled vegetables, fruits and flowers, SIW Farm (stepped in what?) was transformed for the sixth year for 15 summer field-to-fork dinners. Lucky guests savored just-picked produce in an idyllic setting as the meals let the fresh food shine. Guest chefs ranging from Dan Butler, Bryan Sikora, Marc Vetri to William and Merry of The House of William and Merry, crafted menus as diverse as themselves. The rustic-chic 1600s bank barn at Hill Girt Farm—in the Haskell family since 1910—is the picture-perfect backdrop for an al fresco family-style dinner on a working farm (most BYOB and around $75). For crickets, conversation and farm-fresh cuisine beneath the twinkly lights, mark your calendar. - County Lines Magazine
